Fictional case studies, presented properly

Every project below is an invented demonstration scenario. None were carried out — they exist to show how real case studies would be written and laid out.

Fictional scenarios created for this Volthian concept. On a real client site, each entry would document an actual completed job.

Luxury Home Rewire in Vaucluse by VoltSpark Electrical
ResidentialFictional scenario

Luxury Home Rewire

Vaucluse, NSW

A full rewire of a 1920s five-bedroom home with layered LED lighting design, smart switching and a new 42-pole board.

Scenario timeframe: 9 days, staged room by room

The challenge
Original 1920s rubber-sheathed wiring, no earthing to half the house and a fuse board that tripped whenever the kitchen and laundry ran together. The owners were living on site with two young children throughout.
Our solution
We staged the rewire room by room so the family always had power overnight, then designed a layered lighting scheme with the interior designer before a single cable was pulled.
Work completed
  • Full rewire across 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms and living areas
  • New 42-pole switchboard with RCBOs and surge protection
  • 84 dimmable LED downlights plus feature pendant circuits
  • Smart switching, USB-C outlets and heritage-matched plates
The outcome
Every circuit tested, labelled and photographed, with insulation-resistance results handed over as a written report and a Certificate of Compliance.
They worked around our family for two weeks and we never lost power once. The finish is immaculate.

Office Fit-Out in Barangaroo by VoltSpark Electrical
CommercialFictional scenario

Office Fit-Out

Barangaroo, NSW

Complete electrical fit-out for a 900sqm workplace: linear LED, data, three-phase distribution and emergency lighting compliance.

Scenario timeframe: 3 weeks, after-hours works

The challenge
A 900sqm tenancy had to be fully live for 120 staff on a fixed move-in date, with base-build restrictions limiting works to evenings and weekends.
Our solution
We ran a two-crew night schedule against the builder's program, prefabricating distribution and lighting looms off site to compress on-site time.
Work completed
  • Three-phase distribution board and sub-mains
  • Suspended linear LED with daylight and occupancy sensing
  • Under-desk power and data to 120 workstations
  • Emergency and exit lighting certified to AS 2293
The outcome
Handed over two days ahead of the move-in date with zero trading downtime and an as-installed circuit schedule for the facilities team.
Two nights, 22 desks re-fed and not a single cable out of place. Our facilities manager was genuinely impressed.

EV Charger Installation in Willoughby by VoltSpark Electrical
EVFictional scenario

EV Charger Installation

Willoughby, NSW

Dual 7kW chargers with dynamic load management, installed and registered in a single day for a two-vehicle household.

Scenario timeframe: 1 day

The challenge
Two electric vehicles on a 63A single-phase supply. Charging both at full rate would have overloaded the main, and the garage sat 24 metres from the switchboard.
Our solution
Rather than an expensive supply upgrade, we specified dynamic load management so the two chargers share available capacity and back off when the house draws hard.
Work completed
  • 2 x 7kW wall chargers with tethered leads
  • 24m of 6mm sub-circuit in conduit, cavity-run and sealed
  • Dynamic load management with CT metering at the main
  • App commissioning, off-peak scheduling and works registration
The outcome
Both vehicles charge overnight within the existing supply, saving the owners roughly $3,000 against a three-phase upgrade.
Tesla charger installed and registered without any drama. They explained the load management setup properly.

Switchboard Upgrade in Marrickville by VoltSpark Electrical
SafetyFictional scenario

Switchboard Upgrade

Marrickville, NSW

Removal of ceramic fuses, new RCBO board with surge protection, full circuit labelling and an insulation-resistance test report.

Scenario timeframe: 1 day

The challenge
A rewireable ceramic fuse board with no RCD protection, shared lighting and power circuits, and a nuisance trip that had been 'fixed' three times by others.
Our solution
We separated the shared circuits, installed individual RCBOs so a single fault can no longer black out the house, and traced the underlying fault to a degraded oven cable.
Work completed
  • New 24-pole board with individual RCBOs per circuit
  • Type 2 surge protection for the whole property
  • Faulty oven sub-circuit replaced and re-terminated
  • Every circuit tested, labelled and photographed
The outcome
No nuisance trips since handover, and the owners received a plain-English photo report explaining exactly what had failed and why.
VoltSpark quoted upfront, arrived early and the finished board looks like something out of a showroom.
